The Most Common Electrical Issues
Your vehicle’s battery holds stored electrical energy. If the battery is dead or will not hold a charge, your car won’t have the power it needs to start. A dead battery can be caused by the drain of something that has been left on. Batteries are durable, but they can’t last forever. When yours will no longer hold its charge, it’s time to replace it. A related problem is a failed alternator. The alternator works to recharge the battery as you drive. If it’s not functioning, the battery’s expended energy is not replaced. Also disruptive to the flow of electrical power are blown fuses and loose or corroded battery cables. The fuse prevents a power surge from ruining other vehicle components, particularly electronics. If the battery cables are loose or corroded, they may not transmit electrical power as intended. If the starter or solenoid goes bad, the result will be the inability of your automobile to start. You’ll likely hear a clicking noise rather than the sound of the engine turning over. Finally, spark plugs leverage the advantage of electricity to ignite the fuel-air mixture at just the right time in the combustion process through which your engine produces power. If the spark plugs are too worn, you may notice poor engine performance such as rough idling or decreased efficiency. Changing the spark plugs will enable your vehicle to fully utilize its available electrical power.
