These Repairs and More
Although we’ll need to check your vehicle to make a definitive diagnosis, we’re glad to share with you a few of the more common brake repairs we make. For instance, regardless of what you drive, your automobile will eventually need to replace its brake pads. In a disc braking system, the metal pads make contact with the rotor (also called the disc). The friction between the two slows the forward momentum, allowing you to stop. (Note: Many classic vehicles and the rear wheels of a few modern ones have drum brakes. With these, a brake shoe contacts a drum turning inside the wheel to make the stop.) With use, the brake pads wear down. Once they’re too thin (minimum safe thickness of 2/32″), they’ll need to be changed. Also, we’ll need to look for leaks if you notice an increase in stopping distance and feel a spongy brake pedal. Brake fluid is a closed system that allows for the hydraulic force needed to stop your car. If brake lines develop pin holes or the master cylinder is cracked, the resulting fluid loss can spell trouble. We also sometimes encounter a stuck brake caliper. This is the component that moves the pad into contact with the rotor. You’ll likely notice a drag or burning odor. if it remains engaged instead of released. Our mechanical team will happily assist you with these or any other braking system repairs.
